Mental health challenges impact across societies.  792 million people globally have a mental health disorder (WHO). In Australia, just under half of the population has one or more chronic conditions. The top of this list is mental and behavioural conditions affecting approximately 4.8 million individuals (ABS).In a survey from a cohort of 19 million Australians, approximately more than 8 million have experience mental health at some time in their life.

The World Health Organisation’s  action plan emphasizes on goals of promoting well being, prevention of mental health conditions, providing care, enhancing recovery, reducing illness, diability and death.

It is the mission of Guiding Sense to do our part to help individuals, families, schools, organisations in mental health and well being promotion and prevention.

The impact of Covid 19 on the global population’s deteriorating mental health is a growing concern of OECD and its member countries. According to the OECD in Australia the prevalence of depression in 2021 has increased from 10.4% to 27.6%. The prevalence of anxiety in Australia has increased from 13% to 21% in 2021. OECD member countries seem to follow the same trend of prevalence.  Mental distress has been profoundly observed globally due to excessive deaths, risk of deaths, risk of losing jobs, or job loss; limited social interaction and limited services.  Access to mental health services have been disrupted in many countries. To date, recommendations by WHO and the OECD highlight for countries to proactively adapt and adjust quickly by delivering alternative means of mental health services.

In line with the needs of these unprecedented times, Guiding Sense is doing our small part to gradually produce digital and online resources to promote sustainable mental health, wellbeing and wellness  in the face of being challenged by uncertainties brought about by COVID 19 and other  social, economic, health and mental health ramifications.
